This was a particularly fun job beings that it's a creative commercial space, so we were able to get a little over-the-top glam in some of the details!<br />

I love letting my imagination and creativity run wild as I brainstorm ideas for the feel of the space and general style. Taking into consideration the purpose, flow, functionality of the space, and pairing it together with the style of the client(s), their favorirte hues, and a flair specific to them, I begin organizing the difrerent elements to the room, into one cohesive plan that can be put into action without spending the mortgage money to make it all happen! Not only is it inspiring/motivational to see it all come together on the screen, but I feel it truly give the client a sense of what I have in mind (at least the first option) for their space(s). </div><div style="text-align: justify;">We often share the boards on our Facebook fan and biz pages (click on 'fan' and 'biz' to be instantly directed to each of those FB pages..be sure to follow us too once you get there if you havn't already)! This makes it easy for you to show some potential ideas with your friends and family, they often get excited about it for you as well! </div><div style="text-align: justify;">A lot of our followers really enjoy seeing what's coming down the pipeline for fellow clients, so we've decided to keep all the boards in one neat and tidy space both here on the La Dolce Villa Design blog and on our Facebook pages! You can find this dedicated area above at the tab titled 'Client Design Boards', with the same as the title for the albums on each of our FB pages. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So go ahead, take a looksie, share them with others, and come back often to see what new additions have been made!</div></div>La Dolce Villahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07111652503641248277noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177084535079158027.post-80394633441009337942012-03-30T11:35:00.000-06:002012-03-30T11:35:03.179-06:00Mapped out for Great Design<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><br />

</tbody></table>Implementing nostalgia, vintage relics, and/or random finds, is always part of each of my design plans in at least a subtle way. It brings heart, humor, and aesthetic interest to a space, even if in just the smallest of touches. One of my favorite forms of this are maps, globes, or the like. Maps of all kinds are fab to me.. heat maps, a trail guide, topographical, blue prints, even pages pulled from my grandma's AAA road map book she keeps in her car's glove box (and still uses...clearly she really needs mapped out directions on how to use Google Maps)!<br />

</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">Why such a interest in direction type materials? Who knows! I wish I could provide a deep and clever answer for my curiosity of them. Like most things for me....I just like the way they look, the colors the come in, and all that kind of surface stuff :) I guess it could be something about all the intricacy of the lines, compass rose's, grids, being able to pinpoint exactly where you are and thinking about yourself in the grand scheme of a much larger space around you... I also like the colors commonly used on world maps and globes... The pictured globes below are some of my favorite takes on these age-old geographical tools. These are by ImagineNations (<a href="http://www.artonglobes.com/">http://www.artonglobes.com/</a>) . Such endless possibilities, especially if you go with the kit version they provide! Adorn the Antartic or massive country of Africa with any sticker you want! </div><br />

Here are some bright new ways i've seen that really deserve to be on display...(<em>talk about global warming</em>! :) )<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t1eFvFdsc_A/T3Xmlc1xZGI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/c_B5QFVVCUU/s1600/GlobeLighting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dea="true" height="233" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t1eFvFdsc_A/T3Xmlc1xZGI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/c_B5QFVVCUU/s400/GlobeLighting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">That gold/coppery globe above is a fave of mine and would be a very easy and cheap DIY! Spray paint the globe, then use silver thumb tacks (from the Dollar Store) to cover the land portions. Love!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Although maps as art are typically seen in the home in rooms like the den, maybe a boys bedroom, etc...I think it has added impact and looks more interesting when used outside their standard element. That's not say using them in 'male' rooms is out..there is ALWAYS room for a map! I know that these next ideas aren't going to be for everyone's taste, but since I clearly have a map obsession...i'm really loving the thought of using them as wallpaper!</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Whether it is your laptop and important work papers or a favorite collection of bottles or books - bar carts can put a new spin on any space! One of my favorite ways to create interest in a room is to use anything. big or small, (furniture, small decor item, lighting, etc), in a way that it wasn't originally intended. Right now, for me, it's all about the director's chair. I'm not thinking of the Pier 1 staple made overly popular in the 90's. However, what I love is a new take on the director's chair that I love! Here are the details i'm diggn' at the moment:</div><br />
<div style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;"><ul><li>-Leather and/or other hyde-type materials on the seat and back strap</li>
<li>-Thicker wood framing with metal details ..or..</li>
<li>-Mostly Metal framing instead of some Wood (or with some wood details)</li>
<li>-These chairs for use at a dining table, desk, or accent seating in a family room or living room</li>
</ul></div><br />
<div><div style="text-align: justify;">Also, it should be noted that the new versions of the director's chair are not in the ultra affordable category like they once were...which means, their days of being synonymous in a bachelor pad or college dorm are over. This seating has moved up in the world and are dressed for design success!</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">They are as comfortable as they are casual, and extremely versatile. I love a piece(s) that allows me to change the interior style of my home as often as I do, and works again and again in new ways! I like to refer to these kind of pieces as 'Madonnas'..you know, since they reinvent themselves with the change of each new trend..much like the mega music star is known for.... Okay, so maybe it's only clever and makes sense to me! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Using these chairs at a dining table, gives the set a very chic and effortless appeal, while still keeping it a bit formal if you want it to be. Or go eclectic by mixing directors chairs with other styles into the table seating. I rarely put all matching chairs around one table..the contrast of a different (more substantial) seat at each short end seems more 'designed' and balanced to me. However, the exception could possible be made with the use of all director style chairs, as show here:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VoXh5m75rdw/Tz05ujacayI/AAAAAAAAA4I/RV7-hvnQia0/s1600/DirectorsChairs-Dining+Table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VoXh5m75rdw/Tz05ujacayI/AAAAAAAAA4I/RV7-hvnQia0/s400/DirectorsChairs-Dining+Table.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kID3Orp0328/Tz0-InTfCJI/AAAAAAAAA5A/1JlJ2AOfAP4/s1600/DirectorsChairs-WhiteNauticalSet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kID3Orp0328/Tz0-InTfCJI/AAAAAAAAA5A/1JlJ2AOfAP4/s400/DirectorsChairs-WhiteNauticalSet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
The classic club chair has reigned long enough in den, family room, lounges, etc around the world...I would like to declare the restyled director's chair as the new accent seating of choice, for such settings!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZX2TmxeT4Js/Tz08xsOG9eI/AAAAAAAAA4g/2CrC2kQNkNc/s1600/DirectorChairs-OrangeTealGray.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZX2TmxeT4Js/Tz08xsOG9eI/AAAAAAAAA4g/2CrC2kQNkNc/s400/DirectorChairs-OrangeTealGray.jpg" width="311" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ti0dtM8HKdE/Tz0_Ns5BqhI/AAAAAAAAA5g/QBQaMubJzkY/s1600/DirectorsChair-whiteModern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ti0dtM8HKdE/Tz0_Ns5BqhI/AAAAAAAAA5g/QBQaMubJzkY/s320/DirectorsChair-whiteModern.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br />

Where there is not plushness however, there is beautifully worn leather which in my opinion is just as comfortable. Something about well worn leather feels warm, soft, and familiar. All you need it a good book and/or glass of wine, paired with a chair like that, and you have yourself a great little evening!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />

I like to sneak it in wherever I can, especially if it's in a less obvious way. In designing any space, whether it be for a commercial or residential client, or my own ever-evolving home, a little dab of an artistc element here and there will certainly do 'ya :) </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Much like my obsession with painted flooring (several posts back), this month's art element obsession is with rugs. I'm sure this is due in part to freezing temps we have been having here in Colorado, since a rug can really warm up a space. They not only make a room cozy, but they really complete the design in an area that looks wonderful, but is just missing something. In just about every instance, a design plan is not complete until there is a rug in the room. With that being said, consider making this necessary object a statement piece, either subtly or boldly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mpko_AOp1l4/TybJu3pCscI/AAAAAAAAA0g/ZP7rO4OEu7c/s1600/RugCollage1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mpko_AOp1l4/TybJu3pCscI/AAAAAAAAA0g/ZP7rO4OEu7c/s400/RugCollage1.jpg" width="392" /></a></div><br />

Because rugs are such art pieces in and of themselves, why not treat them as such? You wouldn't put a beautiful Pacaso painting on the floor and walk all over, right? I know, not quite the same thing.... However, consider taking a well loved rug and put it on the wall! I love that it brings a whole new textural element to wall art. A unique and unexpected impact in the room, that looks as much at home on the wall as it does on the floor. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fc7CQsAkhIc/TybJ9MeHMBI/AAAAAAAAA0o/HAPMv5PavuI/s1600/RugPost5Wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fc7CQsAkhIc/TybJ9MeHMBI/AAAAAAAAA0o/HAPMv5PavuI/s400/RugPost5Wall.jpg" width="306" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Can't decide if you like a certain rug on the wall or floor better? Problem solved with this option.....</i></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PDX5Ufuid5k/TybKlmBlzBI/AAAAAAAAA0w/k5GSJnBMJaI/s1600/RugPost6Puzzle1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PDX5Ufuid5k/TybKlmBlzBI/AAAAAAAAA0w/k5GSJnBMJaI/s400/RugPost6Puzzle1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Okay, so a bit much in my book, but the construction of this piece is amazing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kTGAMVvJ0gY/TybK1cT_HDI/AAAAAAAAA04/jAW5AQb77ZU/s1600/RugPost6Puzzle2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kTGAMVvJ0gY/TybK1cT_HDI/AAAAAAAAA04/jAW5AQb77ZU/s320/RugPost6Puzzle2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">If you are decorating from scratch in a room with a completely clean slate, you have the opportunity start with the rug, and then build the decor around it. As a designer, I don't think this is going about a room the wrong way at all. If there is a rug you have found that you absolutely adore and are totally inspired by it, using it as the first piece to the room design puzzle, is the best way to do it justice. Starting a design plan with the rug first, is a great way to begin with a bold color, such as orange, yellow, or red and then add in pops of color with accessories around the room. Consider using neutrals on the walls in whites, beiges, grays, or coffee tans to make the dominant color shine throughout your space. The wonderful point about starting with the floor is it gives you a chance to build a room piece by piece, rather than getting overwhelmed with the rug, furniture, walls, and window treatments all at once!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hmFsoB2EGMo/TybM3F0yeGI/AAAAAAAAA1A/mJL1qQeH69g/s1600/RugPostRed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hmFsoB2EGMo/TybM3F0yeGI/AAAAAAAAA1A/mJL1qQeH69g/s400/RugPostRed.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MO1VWS-KeUA/TybNWDpRfCI/AAAAAAAAA1I/iJmhijZVxj4/s1600/RugPostRoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MO1VWS-KeUA/TybNWDpRfCI/AAAAAAAAA1I/iJmhijZVxj4/s400/RugPostRoom.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

Persian rug is always going to be in style and adds a classic and comfortable feel to a space instantly. Just like with wine and cheese, these rugs get better with age, although that an opinion based statement. I also feel that not only do they get better with age, they do with wear as well. A well loved and worn Persian rug has an appeal to it like your favorite torn and tattered t-shirt or old baby blanket. Having one in a room fills it with a sense of comfort and familiarity. <br />

I'm a HUUUGE fan! Kath incorporated motifs from Italian wall coverings and Indian saris when creating the pattern for these beauties. The ornamental elements of the carpet are broken up so much so that in some places, the patterns, which in their original form were repeated perfectly, seem to have been obliterated, soaked with acid and corroded. Who would have thought that such a thing of beauty could come from the look of acid corrosion!?! It's official, decay is now decadent!<br />

Starting with the standard fibers that make up a rug like silk or wool, tactile textiles may be made in wool also, but of the felt variety. Felt rugs in flooring is far more sophisticated than the acrylic version of this fiber that is commonly used in crafts. Felt rugs are typically made from an industrial felt that is not only offered in various thicknesses (which you wouldn't think was possible for felt), but is extremely durable. The strength of it makes it a perfect fit as a flooring option, pair with that the color options, and best yet.. the precision way it can be cut to create immaculate designs, and you have a contemporary work of art right under foot. We make it possible and beyond beautiful within even the most modest of budgets. Everyone deserves a home they love and are proud of, with architectural elements that are as functional as they are fabulous. There is also no sacrifice in quality either, we're talking real wood from real trees, not laminate or other artificial imitations.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I like things with substance, style, and class..both in design and in people :). Which is why in many of my design plans I work in at least some kind of magnificent milwork. To me a space exudes these aforementioned qualities once it's completed with creative carpentry. If there is even a remote possibility that there can be a shelving unit or library, I am all about making it part of the plan! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l_0pDLwGgG0/TyQi49vFVTI/AAAAAAAAA0I/fSvy_EGuiOA/s1600/LibraryRoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l_0pDLwGgG0/TyQi49vFVTI/AAAAAAAAA0I/fSvy_EGuiOA/s400/LibraryRoom.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">With my caviar taste on a peanut butter budget, I was faced with the dilemma of how to get a house that trumps the rest, without the exorbitant rate it typically costs to get it. So I rounded the troupes, putting the A-team together consisting of graduates in Architecture and skilled carpentry craftsmen. I conceptualize style and purpose of the structure, sketch it out, then pass it on the professionals to bring it to life! It was like magic..what once was on paper was now a reality in a room! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

A LOT of books are needed to get a library wall fully filled in..however, a lot of money is not a requirement. Total cost for all those books in the library pictured above was under $50...seriously.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

It's a timeless look that has been around since the 17th century and is still going strong today. That's a long lasting style in my book and a safe route to take in your own home. So if you're the type that fears change for the possibility of it ending up looking dated too soon, this is the updated your walls are begging for! With so many styles of this type of paneling to choose from, first consider the overall feel of your home you would like to represent. In a moment I will describe the different types of wainscoting and the decor styles they best correspond with. Until then, lets take a look at why wainscoting is even in existence and the historical significance of it. According to the holy grail of online knowledge..Wikipedia..The original purpose of wainscoting was to cover the lower part of walls, because homes were constructed poorly and were often affected by rising dampness in the walls. Today, wainscoting is decorative of course and I certainly advise against it not be used to cover up damp walls where mold will be growing! ...That's not exactly the decorative wall treatment anyone wants :) </div><i><b><br />
</b></i><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fHmPk-zvaQI/TyBPuGuPQ-I/AAAAAAAAAyA/f1BK6Piuyjk/s1600/Great+Heights.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fHmPk-zvaQI/TyBPuGuPQ-I/AAAAAAAAAyA/f1BK6Piuyjk/s320/Great+Heights.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Wainscoting began in the 17th century and was pretty much always floor to ceiling (this is still my fave), in the 18th century it changed to various heights on the wall, most popular being 3-5feet high. This is when the chair rail became a hit (typically at a 3ft height). Everyone has an opinion on chair rails it seems like, since this is my blog I am going to freely share mine! I'm not a fan of a traditional 3ft high chair rail, that to me seems dated. I like 5ft or higher. But who knows, maybe in a few years the 5ft will feel like the 3 ft does to me now?! At the end of the decorating day, if you like the 3ft, 5 ft, or all the way to the ceiling, go with what you love most because they are all in style and will always be in style. So it's a personal preference and a win/win decision.</div><br />

This is also versatile for use in any space. One way we like to use this style is in a slightly more contemporary approach by placing the wood rails in a the pattern of a grid. Of all the wainscot styles, this one and the wall paneled version, are the more casual options. That is the opportunity La Dolce Villa has been presented with, which we of course couldn't pass up. We're so excited to announce that our newest boutique venue for our furniture line will be available at Tana Dolce in Castle Rock! Although the names may seem well planned out for this scenario, it was truly just ironic. The owner of this fab Wine Bar, Delicious/Cute Desert spot, and Small Plate Menu venue..fell in love with our furniture design aesthetic and knew it would be a perfect fit to retail! Of course, right?! :)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BvaFhhVcnI/Tx0FHW2Jx5I/AAAAAAAAAxo/r4fSVk1-qwc/s1600/TanaDolceDouble.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BvaFhhVcnI/Tx0FHW2Jx5I/AAAAAAAAAxo/r4fSVk1-qwc/s320/TanaDolceDouble.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Tana Dolce is located right in the heart of the historic area of Castle Rock The two story building exudes all things warm and wonderful, and is loaded with character. The owner, an interior design enthusiast with a passion for Italian, has poured her creativity into every square inch of this location. Her love for the look and authentic Tuscan feel shows in every way. Sprinkled throughout this great spot will be a specially designed line of La Dolce Villa pieces, made exclusively for Tana Dolce. What can you expect to see of ours there??.. All the touches of artisan skill, detail, and unique flair that we're known for, catered to fit with the feel of this space. All will be available for sale, but we also let you try before you buy! The cozy and conversational seating arrangement within the space, will be intermixed with case goods we've designed and made by hand, to coordinate effortlessly with their surroundings. The feel is Tuscan with a slight shabby chic influence. We took the owners inspiration for it and created this inspirational design board to help encourage some creative ideas for the pieces we're providing. <br />

I'm thinking a soiree of sorts would be a great way to go about this ;) Where there is wine, there should be great design, right?!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

We're pulling out all the stops when it comes to home and business interiors, with the best in the biz to execute our innovative design plans! Adding to our already great furniture prep people and seamstresses, we now have 2 upholsterers, drapery seamstresses, 2 carpenters, and a welder! Yes, there is a place for the welder, although it does seem a little random, but here are some visual examples of what we'll be keeping him busy with:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-18jnYWS-bYk/TvOC6CMew2I/AAAAAAAAAuo/g2gDZA2qTV8/s1600/Blog-Metal2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-18jnYWS-bYk/TvOC6CMew2I/AAAAAAAAAuo/g2gDZA2qTV8/s400/Blog-Metal2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESx_qVyux_E/TvOC-Tf37CI/AAAAAAAAAu0/J12zTnEvKcQ/s1600/Blog-Metal1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESx_qVyux_E/TvOC-Tf37CI/AAAAAAAAAu0/J12zTnEvKcQ/s400/Blog-Metal1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Bob is the master behind the metal. He's creative and talented in his art and always open minded to any crazy sketch up I give him to make come to life!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Carpentry is a big deal in both our furniture division and interior design services. We brought on the best for this and their quality of work shows it! Phil is our lead carpenter. He has his college degree in Architecture and has amassed a great deal of experience in his career path prior to La Dolce Villa. His talent is truly great and he shares my love for salvaged architectural elements..which you can expect to see a lot of from us in 2012. I'm very excited to showcase one of my favorite design styles of rescued relics paired with modern/contemporary elements, or with ornate/traditional styles. Randy is our other skilled carpenter. He also has years of construction experience and works wonders with wood. Wainscoting? Built in Libraries? Done and done. With the skills of Phil and Randy, the more complicated and elaborate re-design projects just got much more stream-lined and efficient. We're happy to do add-ons, build out, or built ins, all for a tiny fraction of anyone else in the biz.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">Moving on to the softer side of design...our high end seamstresses quickly whip up the most beautiful window treatments we design. They do impeccable work and are an amazing asset to our staff. If I can draw it, they can sew it! We've dramatically cut the cost on custom window work by having our own seamstresses.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OjpDS7lB5wI/TvOP9PcklUI/AAAAAAAAAwU/d37LKJDPyqU/s1600/Blog-Drapes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OjpDS7lB5wI/TvOP9PcklUI/AAAAAAAAAwU/d37LKJDPyqU/s400/Blog-Drapes.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">We've made our name in wood furniture, especially case goods. But we're very excited to show you what we can do in soft seating and all forms of upholstery. Having two trusted upholsters on staff, we've got your sofas, chairs, and headboards covered! The guys can tuft, tuck, stitch, and fix anything to perfection.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o7_YvygHXB4/TvOOaB0bp2I/AAAAAAAAAwI/0dNGL8EOjAA/s1600/blog-upholstery.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o7_YvygHXB4/TvOOaB0bp2I/AAAAAAAAAwI/0dNGL8EOjAA/s400/blog-upholstery.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> <i><b>It's been a fab 2011 bringing my childhood dream of design to fruition. I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with the best clients here in Colorado. The new year is already bringing about some great growth for La Dolce Villa, I can't wait to show you what we have in store! We're doing something different in design.. staffing our own people keeps costs of the project incredibly affordable, while making a look, functionality, and overall style, uniquely different than anything you have seen before, but can't live without!</b></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

In fact, I think I spend more time preparing the way it's wrapped than I do actually shopping for the gift itself! I love the presentation factor and as mentioned in a few posts back, i'm weak when it comes to anything well packaged in a store..regardless what the product is. I LOVE masterfully marketed stuff. I'm pretty sure i've wasted a lot of money on well presented crap. But when my husband starts complaining about it, I just let him know that all is not lost, great design inspiration comes from it and i'm sure i'll find some resourceful way to make use of the ridiculously overpriced chocolate, or soap, bath salts, and butter! These seem to be the types of things I find well wrapped up with pretty papers and bows :) For example:</b></div><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><b style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">A lot of people want to be part of the overall experience they are surrounded by. Purchasing a service or merchandise from a space that it visually intriguing, often gives that person a piece of that feeling they experienced that they can take with them. Our 5 senses are key in productive design. Obviously, sight is the most important, so give the guests to your home and/or business something to feast their eyes on. A space with just enough details and a look that is not expected, or predictable. It's much more exciting to walk into an area that has an overall look that most couldn't even imagine and is not a replicated look from page 16 of 'that' catalog. This also leaves a mark in their memories, which helps with them spreading the word about your space, and remembering who you or your business are.</b> </div><br />

That is an unofficial term for this style, but I like it and will use it ..if you do..please 'footnote' me after using it..just kidding of course! Since pictures speak more than words, this is what I mean by 'contrast backs'...</span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LPzme84hSu4/TuEBlk2thsI/AAAAAAAAAn0/3QGM1kpRYeM/s1600/ContrastBack2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LPzme84hSu4/TuEBlk2thsI/AAAAAAAAAn0/3QGM1kpRYeM/s400/ContrastBack2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: large;">One of my favorite examples of this look is in this chair aabove. I love the pattern on pattern and the colors. So pretty! Sure it's not for everyone and it makes quite a statement in a room, but for the daring I think it's a DO :)</span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"></span><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-szRERAoFDa0/TuEBkpdzQcI/AAAAAAAAAns/CxjPfg4pybE/s1600/ContrastBack1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-szRERAoFDa0/TuEBkpdzQcI/AAAAAAAAAns/CxjPfg4pybE/s400/ContrastBack1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"></span><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yrxnuObj2fM/TuEBmcxYoWI/AAAAAAAAAn8/-kCkQClPtYk/s1600/ContrastBack3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yrxnuObj2fM/TuEBmcxYoWI/AAAAAAAAAn8/-kCkQClPtYk/s400/ContrastBack3.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7SizfMuVUs4/TuEBo7GwJTI/AAAAAAAAAoU/RLL-u9shIbY/s1600/ContrastBack6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7SizfMuVUs4/TuEBo7GwJTI/AAAAAAAAAoU/RLL-u9shIbY/s400/ContrastBack6.jpg" width="285" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">I feel like this is a great way to add an unexpected pop of pattern (or maybe just color) to any space. It's not too much that it overwhelms the chair or the overall design. Also, since it's just a small portion of the chair, it's a very inexpensive way to add new life to the room or just that particular piece of furniture. If you're a daring DIY'er, you can totally tackle this one yourself. Or for a fraction of the cost of a full reupholstery, a professional can do the job for you. If you're anything like me and you like to change big and little details in your home as often as you change your socks..this is the perfect piece to switch out every season or every style change..as that is ever evolving for me!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: large;">As with most areas of design, there are no rules to how to add a fun bit of accent to the chair. It looks amazing to have it just on the back rest (front side), like this chair with the fab vintage text in gold..LOVE!</span></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I just HAD to include this example as well since it's so fun! </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hjaW0jr_yCA/TuEBnIhENmI/AAAAAAAAAoE/AZ6lRJ5spQY/s1600/ContrastBack4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hjaW0jr_yCA/TuEBnIhENmI/AAAAAAAAAoE/AZ6lRJ5spQY/s400/ContrastBack4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: large;">Using a simple or crisp color scheme, the contrast back style can be beautifully applied to an entire dining set without looking busy or garish. I love the well appointed look of this set and room:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LBmmnP193DQ/TuEBj5HkduI/AAAAAAAAAnk/hzhKYNuH2_w/s1600/ContrastBack8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LBmmnP193DQ/TuEBj5HkduI/AAAAAAAAAnk/hzhKYNuH2_w/s640/ContrastBack8.jpg" width="520" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

This is what keeps me as a designer on my toes and causes my design style to change constantly, while still maintaining my signature aesthetic. I love the latest and greatest when it comes to most anything, especially when what's new is a fresh take on something old (hence our original furniture pieces)! One trend that has surfaced over the past several months (and is gaining more momentum now than ever) is Wallpaper. It <i><b>was</b></i> an outdated trend, but luckily for all us pattern-loving people it's now been fabulously updated! Take a look at these swanky spaces....</div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Not just the look of wallpaper has been reinvented, but the quality of it, especially when it comes to it's application. If you are a DIY'er you're going to love this latest trend and advancement to what's behind the pattern and how to hang and remove these pretty papers. It's all about the 'Self-Adhesive' wallpapers now. Yes! No more back breaking, sticky, time consuming, nightmare when you are ready to change up the wall and tear the stuff down! YAY!!! One company who specializes in self sticking papers market is <a href="http://tempaperdesigns.com/">Tempaper</a>. Self adhesive wallpapers are like glorified contact paper, or massive vinyl decals (only in application, not quality, since the outer finish is like traditional wall paper). Take a looksy at these 8 colors/patterns Tempaper currently offers:</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_DXf3tqOUSo/TtKJY8nLEsI/AAAAAAAAAjk/5GK4xQ9QyKY/s1600/tempaper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_DXf3tqOUSo/TtKJY8nLEsI/AAAAAAAAAjk/5GK4xQ9QyKY/s1600/tempaper.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">They are not for the shy guy (or girl)! But because these surely pack a design punch, it's quite convenient that you don't have to fret over their permanancy, Slap some up in a niche, on an accent wall, backsplash, etc. then simply pull it off when you grow tired of it! I would definitely re-apply the removed paper to the original paper backing for later use. That's 'green' to me :)! Quick side note... speaking of the aformentioned vinyl decals..sad to say..they are on their way out..well actually...they're just out. Luckily, they are easy to remove without tearing up your walls! </div><div style="text-align: justify;">My all time favorite sources for stylish wallpapers is <a href="http://bloompapers.com/">Bloompapers</a>. This is a MUST checkout! Here are some samples of what i'm talking about :)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F5kog40YqpE/TtKcCxTECnI/AAAAAAAAAnU/HbeeDF1Ht70/s1600/bloomDuo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="143" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F5kog40YqpE/TtKcCxTECnI/AAAAAAAAAnU/HbeeDF1Ht70/s400/bloomDuo2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I told you so! L-O-V-E!!!!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Wallpaper is not the only new options for decking those walls out.. we're seeing a lot of painted patterns, typography, painted wall treatments again (new faux..not so much of the sponging variety..). Basically, if it can be painted on the wall, it's posh. I like that this trend is much more authentic than it's vinyl prediseter. It's not just wall art, it's complete artisan walls with A LOT of 'WOW'!</div><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">This next wall idea isn't for everyone, but i'm drawn to it because I love nail head trim. I think this would work well in a den or a small room. We would LOVE to hear your thoughts on nail head walls, is it a 'DO' or a 'DON'T '?..Even if not for your home do you think it's too much or tastefully unique?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QZn9qV6Aud4/TtKQwoyzzQI/AAAAAAAAAmU/doJ27FYd9lU/s1600/NailheadWallTrio.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QZn9qV6Aud4/TtKQwoyzzQI/AAAAAAAAAmU/doJ27FYd9lU/s640/NailheadWallTrio.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Just like in all things trendy, you're best not to jump on the bandwagon of all the latest. I like to infuse the latest in to all my spaces both commercial areas and home interiors, in key spots here and there, only using those trends that are most relavent to it's surroundings and purpose. Pick an idea that blends well with the existing look and does not look too forced. Nobody likes to see a grandma wearing teenager clothing....</div><br />

Not everyone may have a separate table for the short set in the group, instead opting for an all in one family table. Several of these ideas would work in that scenario as well, or can be used on an all adult table too (who says it has to be all formal and stiff?)! However, in my family, there is absolute need for a kids' table since there are sooooo many kids on each side of the family, including the three crazy ones I 'bring to the table'...pun totally intended ;). </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">This first kids' table is very dreamy, but I realize it's not all that practical for most of us :) I REALLY love the idea of this. I think i'll consider getting my Paul Bunion on and collect the wood in time for a fun spring soiree :) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-itp8esNSKVY/TsvFRFvFztI/AAAAAAAAAjE/Kv-UBtAr0I4/s1600/kidstable1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-itp8esNSKVY/TsvFRFvFztI/AAAAAAAAAjE/Kv-UBtAr0I4/s400/kidstable1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">In my opinion, it's a must to cover the kids' table in brown paper (reverse side of shopping sacks perhaps?), or butcher paper. This gives them a creative (and hopefully) quiet outlet to during dinner time, and the look kind of just goes with the Thanksgiving feel anyway, right?!..I love a purposeful chic element! Once the table is covered, start layering it with all kinds of fun (interactive) decor pieces. These are two our faves...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WBxaSYPjO9A/TsvFRuVxykI/AAAAAAAAAjM/UK2x4edOBYo/s1600/kidstable2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WBxaSYPjO9A/TsvFRuVxykI/AAAAAAAAAjM/UK2x4edOBYo/s400/kidstable2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

We've searched high and low to compile only THE BEST ideas just for you! Today through Wednesday you'll receive generous servings of Table-Scapes for both the adult and kids' tables, thoughtful Thanksgiving touches, DIY decor, and kids activities to keep them out of the kitchen! </span></div><br />
Today is all about the Table-Scaping. We LOVE the look of this black and white runner paired with pops of color, while still keeping it looking "fall-sey". A fresh new take to the typical table!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jCBAVmKV_qg/TskQlzh49bI/AAAAAAAAAhc/Yeoxlu6Fzqk/s1600/Tablescape1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jCBAVmKV_qg/TskQlzh49bI/AAAAAAAAAhc/Yeoxlu6Fzqk/s400/Tablescape1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <br />
Soooooo Adore this Ruffled Runner!..and everything else too :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c1Pp21D1OKM/TskSQJIKMdI/AAAAAAAAAhk/LTFyquv-qB4/s1600/Tablescape2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c1Pp21D1OKM/TskSQJIKMdI/AAAAAAAAAhk/LTFyquv-qB4/s400/Tablescape2.jpg" width="275" /></a></div><br />
There is so much to love about this table! The pop of green with the apple..perfect! Everything looks so organic and natural from the wood plank, to the wheat stalks, corn husks, array of mini pumpkins, and the color theme. And let's not leave out the chairs ladies!..The decor on these one somewhat resembles a pilgrim's ruffled shirt! Genius! It appears that even that is organic since the ruffle itself is made from coffee filters :) Super easy, totally chic, definitely unique.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E_awUGVfJ4s/TskiLjyDp6I/AAAAAAAAAis/0cVc81wGalw/s1600/Tablescape13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E_awUGVfJ4s/TskiLjyDp6I/AAAAAAAAAis/0cVc81wGalw/s640/Tablescape13.jpg" width="366" /></a></div><br />
Don't Forget to Table-scape your Sideboard!...(an LDV Sideboard perhaps??) :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6yguj41yPoQ/TskiyKdE3_I/AAAAAAAAAi0/PQzZZkxaDv4/s1600/tablescape14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6yguj41yPoQ/TskiyKdE3_I/AAAAAAAAAi0/PQzZZkxaDv4/s400/tablescape14.jpg" width="311" /></a></div><br />
In or Out we're ALL ABOUT flowers paired with pumpkins and the planters! Perfect for a centerpiece, on the buffet,or scattered about the front steps.<br />

I do need to make the point however, that my love for the London look took root before the royal wedding.... Although it's not new that cutlural events are large contributors to the latests trends in fashion and home, I like to consider myself a little innovative-creative on occasion with my interor ideas. Most ideas I come up with are based from my own inspirations, not those mass-produced ideas that are fed to us through all types of media, that are two seconds away from being seen on the shelves at Wal-Mart. Moving right along... So what was the spark of this aesthetic for me? I wish I could put my finger on one particular thing, but this one was more like a bunch of little sparks that ignited a fire! </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>First..</em></strong>who dosn't love the idea of anything Royal...I mean hello fairytale! But I much prefer the look and 'regal royal' as opposed to 'pink princess'.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Second..</strong></em>"Bridget Jones' Diary", "About a Boy", "Love Actually", "Knotting Hill"...the list goes on and on...ending with "Absolutely Fabulous"... My personal Emmy Award list of English movies/shows...LOVE!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>Third..</em></strong>I can't get enough of an English accent (unless it's coming from Madonna)..everything sounds better/smarter when said with such a tone, even curse words sound intelligent!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>Fianlly..</em></strong>my family roots on both sides are from England :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><em>(Not included on the list is English food..bland and uninteresting by taste, but some of the names on the other hand are not so much..like "spotted dick"..a very popular UK desert..)</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So with that <em>partial list</em> of inspiring ideas that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, it brought about a lot of visual ways to show that through interiors of course (my brain is wired weird like that).. Some of my favorite eye candy on this style...</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">You may have asked yourself, "Well what is it, a dresser or a chest?!".. We've decided to give it the combo name since's it's taller than a standard chest (like a hope chest), but not quite the full height of a long or tall dresser. It also as the added use option as a bench! If you are very space challenged in your living area, you could add more function to it and put your TV on it as well. Basically, this British-Inspired piece has a lot of bang for it's buck and endless style appeal. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">For me, London will be calling for a while when it comes to my home decor, but it can easily evolve (like all great design) every other month or so, when i'm ready for a visual update in my space. What's on my mind for that next step?... An equestiran style flair that derived a little bit from the british feel i've been loving. The look for this is sort of like London mixed with Scottland, then thrown accross 'the pond' to the east coast where it lands in The Hamptons. Shopping at a certain mass-retail 'all in one' big box store was not just out of the question, but down right depressing. Second hand (even if deemed 'vintage') was horrifyingly embarrassing and a store of such mothley merchandise was certainly not a place to step foot in, let alone bring something back to your home from thee there...and then live with it. Anything previously owned, even a home, was not a consideration. I'm not proud of this fact, actually, my narrow-minded opinion on the matter is quite embarrassing to me. I frequently feel the urge to offer a wide-spread apology to all those whom I would have offended, if I had voiced my opinion on the subject in any type of public setting. I believe in taking the negative, lesson-learned situations in life, and using them to bring about a positive change. I did just that and turned a very important page in my book, which began a new chapter in a frugality that brought about fabulous endings.</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dw111siU6uo/TrC1QdrcaXI/AAAAAAAAAdw/KHGie7A5xck/s1600/shopping+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dw111siU6uo/TrC1QdrcaXI/AAAAAAAAAdw/KHGie7A5xck/s400/shopping+collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></b></div><b><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dR_ypRhHtko/TrC9zrsGHcI/AAAAAAAAAd4/cJ6axRZ-Wjg/s1600/BlogCollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dR_ypRhHtko/TrC9zrsGHcI/AAAAAAAAAd4/cJ6axRZ-Wjg/s400/BlogCollage.jpg" width="335" /></a> Anther confession...I LOVE packaging, advertisements, glossy/sparkling product facades, and the latest and greatest of just about any type of product on the market (side note: fave marketed merchandise I can think of off hand...Victoria's Secret, Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren anything, endless brands of department store fragrances, the Cadillac Escilade..which turns out to be, in my opinion..substantially sub-par quality, and embarrassingly... Hello Kitty stuff..to name a few). This hasn't changed even with my new shopping mindset, which I am perfectly okay with because of a little think called 'balance'. See, in the past.. when presented with a retail opportunity of any kind, I always came away with a purchase(s) in hand, especially when tied up well with a pretty bow. I was an easy target in the exact demographic all the advertisement was aimed at...they always won. Then I mentally woke up one day and realized what was going on. I was being duped by advertisements, and the rhetoric they verbally and non-verbally fed me. I felt kind of ridiculous at that thought, especially as a sat in a room filled with tagged items I had purchased over a year ago..and didn't even really care for them (hence the non-use/still tagged status). Then a specific event happened that brought about my new awakening, which although I find to be embarrassing, I am forever greatful for in so many ways. Each month when the bank statements came I paid no attention to them, didn't even open the envelope, it always went straight to the wastebasket, along with all the other 'boring' pieces of mail like the utility bills. I hadn't had a credit card since college, when my mom paid off the monthly balance, and now I was married, my husband was great at his job, and provided a substantial living, which equipped me with a platinum status debit card and a lot of free time...that was quickly filled up with a daily shopping, and other such luxury time spenders. A couple years into the money madness that I didn't think twice about managing, the monthly statement came right on schedule, and as usual I tossed it on the table (unopened of course), then headed out the door, with my new baby...to..you guessed it..shop! That night when my husband and I were winding down for the evening, he looked at me with surprise (not anger), opened bank statement in hand, saying, "did you know that you spent $45,178 last month and $46,382 this month on debit card purchases alone?! What did you buy?!!" This shocked the both of us since I struggled to determine the purchases to account for it all. It was scary to think I had carelessly wasted just under $93,000 in only 2 months, with seemingly little to show for it. Sure, the basic bills were paid from our debit account, but that only totaled roughly $8,000 per month. I had bought some furniture as well, which was the only sizable purchase of the many I had made within those months, but even that had still left a lot I lost in the daily frivilous spending. I literally 'spent' my afternoons wasting money, with very little gain. The spending shock caused me to slow it down a bit and find more constructive habits to fill my day. I knew I was not stupid or shallow, but this was exactly what my behavior represented. Now, flash forward a couple years from then, to the massive decline in the economy, which personally brought about a 180 degree change in my money mindset. By nature I am creative and constructive, two traits which had previously been buried by my shopping obsession. Those God-given traits were making their way back to the surface in the face of adversity, and I couldn't have been more grateful for the change, even though at first it sure didn't feel anything close to that! After the sulking had subsided, mental clarity set in, along with an addicting amount of motivation. </b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>I had my typical need to redesign my home again, this time to accommodate my renewed spirit (which was really me just coming back in to who I truly am). I thought about how annoying it was that I had purchased a $4000 entertainment center a few months prior, and it wasn't even what I really wanted for the family room anyway. I liked it well enough, it was from a much adored retailer, but it wasn't doing anything for me, nor did it speak to my overall personal style that my home should represent. I have always really, REALLY, loved...well, been completely obsessed with... interior design, color, textiles, and art since I was at least 9 years old (which was when I got my first subscription to Architectural Digest and spent my summer break watching hours of HGTV). I soon realized there is always more than one way to do pretty much everything. The easiest, in interior design, is typically the most expensive (see pretty= buy many, mentality to getting a room done). But that leaves very little room to the imagination in designing a space. Also, buying the most obvious (and well advertised) furniture and decor, deprives your home design of the self interpretation it desperately needs to make it comfortable, perfect, and different from all the other's in your town. It was apparent to me at that point, that what the interior design industry lacked most was the high end look/style, we live to create, at an affordable rate. Of course there are standard, mass produced, affordable interior options out there, but they leave a lot to be desired, and basically just aren't worth even the little amount of money they cost, especially if you don't LOVE it. Having attained a lot of high end product experience/knowledge (see, not all was lost in my frivillous endeavors), I knew what made these items 'high end', to somewhat justify the high end price. It comes down to three aspects, quality materials, (<i>usually</i>) impeccable construction, and brand recognition. The last of these (brand), it what we typically pay for most, it comprises the largest percentage of the overall cost. Since so much $ goes into advertisement to build a brand, the company needs the fabulous return on their investment. I'm not discrediting advertisement and branding all together, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of ingenuity and creative genius that goes in to that which I truly respect, and it should be recognized and rewarded.</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZCi9FCCzOoY/TrC-qyAVOnI/AAAAAAAAAeI/MRaOVJ0FBwY/s1600/LDV+Sign2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZCi9FCCzOoY/TrC-qyAVOnI/AAAAAAAAAeI/MRaOVJ0FBwY/s400/LDV+Sign2.jpg" width="400" /></a>I began La Dolce Villa with the goal of changing the look of affordable interiors, to one that feels curated over time, is high quality, stylish, and aesthetically represents the individuals that reside there. Every piece we produce and room I design, are done from an artistic point of view. Colors, balance, scale, etc. will always be in harmony and flow effortlessly throughout the space. My obsession with the industry and type of work I truly love to do, has me constantly keeping up on all the latest and greatest styles and design tools. Most importantly though, I am in touch with reality, real budgets, people's lifestyles, and their personalities. I listen to your needs, wants, and limitations, never imposing my personal opinions on what you should do. Home design is always a collaborative effort between myself and the client(s), taking what you tell me and what I see, and orchestrating it into several flexible design plans for you to choose from. What goes into these plans is my knowledge of interior design, high end styling/merchandise, and endless creativity.</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><br />

Having my own toddlers at home, I know how important and deserved, any amount of sleep is (even if it's just a couple hours nightly)! Making the most out of that precious little time is EVERYTHING, which is why a luxurious, retreat style setting, with high end hotel-like bedding is a top priority. This is just what Jason and Lisa are getting in their redesigned master suite we're working on. Below is the vision board I put together as the jumping off point for the room's aesthetic.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-amKde32-MCE/TpxItNTl9JI/AAAAAAAAAcw/yFFHoz_A7fM/s1600/WalkoMstrBdrmCBoard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-amKde32-MCE/TpxItNTl9JI/AAAAAAAAAcw/yFFHoz_A7fM/s400/WalkoMstrBdrmCBoard.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> The color scheme is espresso brown, bright white, with chrome/silver accents. The look will be timeless, contemporary chic, with some focus on textures. One priority in this project is the bedding. This couple will be dreaming in all down...feathers that is. With a new feather bed, high thread count sateen sheets, and the most marshmellowy like duvet we can get, nothing could be more inviting at the end of a day! Not to mention the clean and crisp look it will be one they won't grown tired of any time soon, and keeping it looking brand new/clean is super easy..just bleach it when washing! Picking out down products (pillows, featherbeds, or duvets), isn't as simple as it seems, and since they vary so widely in price, it makes it all the more confusing. Well, I'm about the make the process so much simpler and help you sleep better at night! The truth is, quality of down products is as much varied as the prices are online...the price does not always determine the quality level (this is true with just about everything your shopping for), but it does have some reflection of what's packed inside and how it was packed. Here are the 3 things I've narrowed it down to in order to make the best purchase:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bVuICFMRJrY/Tp3srQLQjdI/AAAAAAAAAc4/k6Bt0o2TGIQ/s1600/whiteDuvet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bVuICFMRJrY/Tp3srQLQjdI/AAAAAAAAAc4/k6Bt0o2TGIQ/s400/whiteDuvet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> I've learned more than I ever thought I needed to know when it comes to this fabulous type of bedding. What I was most surprised about was that in the less/least expensive down comforters and feather beds, at best they have what is phrased as 'down top' and other variations on the same idea. Sure this seems nice, I mean you're looking for a down feather bed to top our mattress or a duvet to top you..right? That is the plan, but a down top means that just a thin (probably fairly sparse) layer of the feathers are actually down feathers, what lies beneath that is..well..water foul feathers..which to mean seems just..uh..foul! It's not just that water foul feathers are the bottom barrel feathers (or should I say, bottom of the coop), but they usually (pretty much always), have sharp quills, which undoubtably will poke through the duvet, feather, bed, or pillow, and is pretty much the opposite feel of comfort you were shopping for in the first place. This brings me to another 'must have', which is 300 thread count cover. Anything less than this will cause feathers, quills, what-have-you to sneak out and end up all over your room. Before you know it, you'll be left with some cheap sheeting with a few foul feathers inside! Lastly, baffled sewn through detailing is imperative since it creates cushy little boxes of feather filling that will stay there and keep the overall shape of the bedding. A lot of products will say that it's baffled, but it won't say that it's sewn through, which means it's not. The feathers will shift all over the place and will quickly turn what once seemed 'luxe' to 'lumpy'. Same goes with 'chaneled' sewn..no go on that style either.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> I really LOVE a good deal, but know that a good deal isn't always the cheapest one. If your down products contain ALL of the above three specifications, you are getting a great deal in that it will be bedding you own and absolutely love for years and years, instead of weeks or months. Replacing the purchase several times over always adds to be much more expensive, than the better quality item(s) were in the first place. So shop and shop (probably best online) for down bedding to find the best price on items with all three qualifications. Comparing cost of the same item on this will be a win/win..and you will be sleeping pretty!</div></div>La Dolce Villahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07111652503641248277noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177084535079158027.post-65802583973898276862011-10-10T19:49:00.000-06:002011-10-10T19:49:12.908-06:00Sittn' Pretty<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I wrote a short while back about a wonderful couple I have the pleasure of working with in their new home, where we've been working with one of my favorite aesthetics..French Provincial. Here's a flashback of the original mood board:</div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NYTiHjOZr9Q/TpOgXzM1Y2I/AAAAAAAAAco/8vUcEi2PyKI/s1600/Furniture-NeyMoodBoard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NYTiHjOZr9Q/TpOgXzM1Y2I/AAAAAAAAAco/8vUcEi2PyKI/s400/Furniture-NeyMoodBoard.jpg" width="400" /></a>The design planning has been unfolding in their living and dining room, which are fairly open areas in the front of the home that you walk into from the entry. Along with some of the furniture in the living room (coffee and side tables, sofa, corner accent chair), the dining table and chairs have been completed. In the next few days I will post pics of that dining room..I know, I know, teasers are lame! It's all about wanting to see it right now...At least that's how I feel :) But I won't leave you hanging without some great preview shots of 2 of the chairs I finished last week, which I now have a personal obsession with! It was hard parting with them, but they look even better in Erin and Jason's dining room than they do in the pictures I took of them below which is in a room in my home</div></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_GxXyWLAYec/TpOc5AHnj4I/AAAAAAAAAcQ/vo_2_9lgfds/s1600/Furniture-FrenProvDuo3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" kca="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_GxXyWLAYec/TpOc5AHnj4I/AAAAAAAAAcQ/vo_2_9lgfds/s400/Furniture-FrenProvDuo3.jpg" width="363" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ibMbdcrecJM/TpOc94PZHiI/AAAAAAAAAcY/CcR58Zyrhuk/s1600/Furniture-FrenProvDuo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" kca="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ibMbdcrecJM/TpOc94PZHiI/AAAAAAAAAcY/CcR58Zyrhuk/s400/Furniture-FrenProvDuo2.jpg" width="332" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">These chairs had GREAT 'bones' to them and the cushioning was in incredible condition. My guess is they were once in a dining room that was rarely used and were probably not ever owned by anyone other than the original people who bought them. I rarely see chairs this old with upholstry/cushioning that well kept! However with that being said, they were horribly outdated and had much better things in store for them! Here is their humble begining 'before' shot:</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mEt8BESn2cM/TpOd25eG0hI/AAAAAAAAAcg/T4idaEie37s/s1600/Furniture-FrenProvDuoBefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kca="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mEt8BESn2cM/TpOd25eG0hI/AAAAAAAAAcg/T4idaEie37s/s320/Furniture-FrenProvDuoBefore.jpg" width="302" /></a></div>This was like a Cinderalla story of chairs! I just love a happy ending...which will be their place at a beautiful table setting with other like-styled seating, in a well designed setting :) More to come.... </div>La Dolce Villahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07111652503641248277noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177084535079158027.post-11512736387337591782011-10-10T15:16:00.000-06:002011-10-10T15:16:21.307-06:00*ALL NEW* the {Channing} !!!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">We are so excited to introduce the 'Channing' since it features our original LDV distress finish, a cross hatch/woven linen look. The added texture and understanted appeal is truly unique and exudes our professional artisan quality. I personally love the visual texture it kind of looks like it has, while maintaining that warm, natural looking age-worn/old world look we're known for. But the Channing dosn't stop there..the charm continues through the silver leaf detailing on the intricuitly carved band around the center. The leafing was perfected for this piece by the aged pewter finish we gave it, which coordinates effortlessly with the drawer pulls. All this for only $280! Seriously, you'd think we've gone crazy with the prices, but we've just perfected the business for the sole purpose of retailing our pieces for a wholesale cost.</span> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G9MiPviOvm0/TpNfwr3O77I/AAAAAAAAAb4/fltCC2HX04c/s1600/Furniture-ChanningCollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" kca="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G9MiPviOvm0/TpNfwr3O77I/AAAAAAAAAb4/fltCC2HX04c/s400/Furniture-ChanningCollage.jpg" width="376" /></a></div><br />
